Battle of Stalingrad
1) What does Joseph Stalin's advice to the people of Stalingrad say about him as a leader?
----Shows that he is fearful and harsh, because he would shoot someone if they got scared and ran away.
2) Explain why Hitler would react in the way shown after signing a Non-Aggression Pact with Stalin?
---- He wanted Stalin's country. He also acted as a friend to Stalin so Stalin and his people would not suspest anything.
3) Explain the significance of propaganda in this battle, using examples from the posters.
---- They were making the soldiers think that Germans were beasts and got them to want to kill the Germans even more. Like how they say "Kill the German Beast".
4) What do the extremes of the war reveal about what it takes to win a total war?
---- The would kill soldiers one by one and would aim at certain people before they would shoot. After killing soldier they would take their supplies and they would win the war.
5) How does the story of Vasily Zaitsev relate to the war in Iraq?
---- The weapons they use over and over again because the weapon would kill more people. Snipers were used mostly in the war. In Iraq our weapons havent been killing as many people as Iraq's weapons. Seems like everyday we have more deaths then them.
6) In times of crisis, sometimes heroic figures emerge. Which figure emerged in a similar way to Vasily after the terrorist attacks of 9/11?
---- This is alot like the attacks of 9/11 because after we were attacked we want to go and seek revenge, but now we are still over in Iraq fighting, and what good has that cost us other then a lot of dead soldiers.
12) Does the Soviet reaction to victory seem reasonable to you? (Be specific)
